Modernizing Bangkok’s Iconic “Robot Building” with Advanced HVAC Insulation Solutions

The UOB Sathorn Refurbishment Project in Bangkok is a remarkable example of innovation in HVAC duct insulation. Located in the heart of Bangkok, this project involves the revitalization of the renowned “Robot Building,” a commercial structure known for its unique architectural design since 1987. Acquired by UOB Thailand in 2005, the building’s HVAC system was updated to meet contemporary standards in energy efficiency, sound insulation, and fire safety. 

Introducing the CLIMAVER® System for Superior Performance 

For this refurbishment, the HVAC duct insulation system was upgraded from traditional metallic insulated ducts to the advanced CLIMAVER® solution. This change, aimed at improving the building’s acoustic and energy performance, involved close collaboration with our R&D and Central Teams for precise acoustic testing. The CLIMAVER® Neto system, known for its efficiency and soundproofing capabilities, was selected to address the building’s functional needs.

CLIMAVER®: A Comprehensive Solution for Insulated HVAC Ductwork

Our approach to this project involved the development of an extensive acoustic calculation procedures, tailored specifically for the CLIMAVER® Neto system and CLIMAVER® Plus R to reduce friction losses on the duct surfaces. This solution dramatically reduced external static pressure on the air handling unit (AHU) by eliminating the need for duct silencers, achieving an impressive 30% reduction in power input requirements. The CLIMAVER® system provided both energy efficiency and improved installation quality, making it a sustainable choice for Bangkok’s challenging HVAC market. Using the CLIMAVER® System not only reduces the embodied carbon of materials but also decreases the operational carbon from the daily operation of the building's HVAC system.
