The new facility utilizes CertainTeed solutions for external insulation of sheet metal HVAC ducts

Abbotsford Regional Hospital and Cancer Centre is among the first health sector public/private partnership projects to be built in Canada. A public/private partnership is an agreement in the form of a long-term performance-based contract, between the government and the private sector, for the provision of infrastructure or services that best meets public needs and delivers value for taxpayers’ dollars.

Construction of the Abbotsford Regional Hospital and Cancer Centre was funded by Access Health Abbotsford, a consortium that included PCL Constructors Westcoast Inc., MCM/Silver Thomas Hanley, ABN AMRO N.V., Macquarie North America Ltd., Johnson Controls and Sodexho. The Abbotsford Regional Hospital and Cancer Centre includes approximately 63,172 square meters of floor space and sits on 25 acres of land. The facility has capacity for 300 beds and provides health services to more than 150,000 people in greater Abbotsford, British Columbia, and up to 300,000 in British Columbia’s growing Fraser Valley region.

The new facility utilizes 300,000 square feet of CertainTeed SoftTouch™ DuctWrap and 50,000 square feet of CertainTeed CertaPro™ Commercial Board with foil scrim kraft (FSK) fire resistant vapor retarder facing, both for external insulation of sheet metal HVAC ducts.

Provided by Vancouver, British Columbia insulation distributor Frost Insulation, the CertainTeed duct insulation was installed by Aarc-West, also of Vancouver.

"The CertainTeed duct insulation is a solid, reliable choice for the new hospital and cancer center,” says Howard Deck, President of CertainTeed Insulation. “Our SoftTouch Duct Wrap and CertaPro Commercial Board are ideal products for health care facilities, as they insulate sheet metal ducts to prevent loss of valuable heated or cooled air and minimize the transmission of unwanted HVAC noise,” Deck says. “Patient comfort is a must at any health care facility, and well-insulated ductwork is an important step to take toward providing them that comfort. We believe that our CertainTeed insulation products will provide the Abbotsford Regional Hospital and Cancer Centre with the strong performance it demands, and we’re pleased to be part of the project.”
