Scottish Ferry Loch Seaforth insulation

The shipyard Flensburger Schiffbau-Gesellschaft (FSG) has chosen the high-performance insulating material ULTIMATE® made by ISOVER for the building of the Scottish ferry “Loch Seaforth”. Clear weight savings and excellent properties in terms of heat insulation, noise control and fire protection have convinced the engineers

The yard Flensburger Schiffbau-Gesellschaft used the high-performance material ULTIMATE® made by ISOVER for the building of the ferry boat “Loch Seaforth” for the Scottish company Caledonian Maritime Assets Limited (CMAL). The clear weight saving in comparison with similar shipbuilding products made of traditional stonewool convinced the engineers of the firm Flensburger Schiffbau-Gesellschaft, who put the innovative insulating material into many areas of the ship. Furthermore, ULTIMATE® offers the benefits of an efficient installing and an easier handling as well as of excellent properties in terms of heat insulation, noise control and fire protection.

The “Loch Seaforth” is a modern and sophisticated new type of ferry, which has been designed for the accommodation of maximally 700 passengers as well as the carrying of 143 private cars or 26 trucks. The ship is 116 m long and will go into service between Ullapool and Stornoway linking the mainland of north-western Scotland with the Isle of Lewis in the Hebrides. Because of its high-value and modern design and construction, the ferry will be capable of round-the-clock operation and for this reason will replace two older local ferries.
