Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation insulation

Thanks to its high acoustics performances, CLIMAVER  was chosen for the insulation refurbishment of a concert hall in Lisbon

The Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation is a building comprising exhibitions and concert halls which was inaugurated in 1969. An intervention to improve the insulation of the main hall had been planned since 1990: the work began in 2013 and ended in February 2014. The acoustics performances have been improved and it is nowadays among the best concert halls in Europe.

One of the technical consultants we worked with was ARUP, also present in Sidney and Copenhagen Operas. The Portuguese consultant team, comprising HVAC and Building Physics experts, have chosen CLIMAVER self-supporting ducts: it was an important matter that the inner surface of the air ducts should reduce noise propagation. Since there were rehearsal rooms -orchestras and choirs- adjacent to the Main Hall, it was necessary to add mass to the duct walls, thus avoiding noise break-in and break-out effects through them.

The main contractor for mechanical equipment, including HVAC, was GDF Cofely Suez. We have been keeping in touch with them during the whole work.

The site team were aware of ISOVER's solutions, especially for HVAC and fire protection.
